Relive a day in May 1862 in this new exhibit memorializing the exploits of Bucks County’s 104th Pennsylvania Regiment at the Battle of Fair Oaks during the Civil War. The exhibit features the recently conserved flag of the 104th, as well as artifacts and artwork that recall the dramatic events of the battle, especially the “rescue of the colors” from capture from Confederate troops.

In an effort to continue Pearl S. Buck’s legacy, Pearl S. Buck International sent 19 people to China over the last two year’s as Teacher Ambassadors. Now, plans are being made for the Spring 2006 Semester and the 2006-7 school year. New recruits are needed to teach oral English to children in Zhenjiang who are eager to learn.  In Zhenjiang, the semesters run from September through January and February through July. Compensation is provided as accommodations, airfare, health insurance and a small monthly stipend. Shady Brook Farm launches this holiday season with the Tree of Hope Kick-off Celebration and Holiday Open House on December 4.  The Garden of Reflection’s Tree of Hope will be adorned with 2749 light bulbs to represent each of the lives lost on 9-11, and 17 stars honoring each of the Bucks County residents who perished that day.  Lynn Doyle from CN8’s It’s Your Call will kick-off the celebration and will feature a Tree of Hope dedication ceremony during which all of the lights will be lit for 2749 seconds.  After the ceremony, the lights will go out.  In keeping with our theme of “After Darkness… Light”, bulbs will be relit through sponsorships.  “It is our hope to light all 2749 bulbs in time for the holidays”, said Ellen Saracini.  Sponsors can contribute at any of the following locations: Shady Brook Farm, McCaffrey’s Market, The Lavender Rose, The Temperance House and Jammer Doors.  Santa will arrive at Shady Brook Farm by helicopter at 3 pm.  Pictures with Santa will be available from 3-9 pm along with refreshments, wine tasting, product demonstrations, live entertainment and more.
