12/28/2004     BUCKS COUNTY TOURISM GETS “PUMPED” BY THE PROVER TRUCK

BUCKS COUNTY, PA – The Bucks County Conference & Visitors Bureau, Inc. (BCCVB) announces a unique new collaboration with the County of Bucks Department of Consumer Protection/Weights and Measures. In an effort to best serve visitors to the region, the exterior of the Weights and Measures prover truck now features a Bucks County map and highlights www.ExperienceBucksCounty.com, the official Bucks County, Pennsylvania tourism resource.

“Visitors often ask our deputy sealers for directions to Sesame PlaceÒ, museums and other popular attractions. We’re always happy to represent the County and supply this information but now it’ll be easy with the BCCVB’s map and website available for all to see on the prover truck,” explains Michael D. Bannon, Director of the County of Bucks Department of Consumer Protection/Weights and Measures. “The BCCVB has also provided us with printed Visitors Guides to pass out to tourists we meet while we’re on inspections throughout Bucks County.”

Who are deputy sealers and what is the prover truck?

The Weights and Measures office consists of four deputy sealers who are trained and certified by the State of Pennsylvania to physically inspect and certify the accuracy of gas pumps, scales, timing devices and oil truck deliveries within the County of Bucks. The sealers conduct annual countywide inspections and certifications of over 11,000 weighting, measuring and timing devices. The Weights and Measures truck is known as a prover truck. It is used to ensure the accuracy of gasoline pumps by pumping each grade of gasoline at both high and low speeds into various sized holding tanks.

The mission of the Bucks County Conference & Visitors Bureau, Inc. is to increase visitation to Bucks County by effectively marketing its heritage, accommodations and attractions.
