Roger Loos began his work as a sculptor in the mid-1990's when he was a docent at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. He received his training at Muhlenberg College and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and his work has been shown extensively in the Bucks County area, at such venues as Phillips'Mill and Bucks County Community College. Loos works in the ancient art of stone carving--making abstract and semi-abstract sculptures that are filled hard-edged angles and graceful curves. He uses granite, marble and limestone, acquired from quarries in Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Indiana. Stone carving rquires tremendous patience and persistence; Loos often places the stones he is going to carve in his garden, where he can see them during his daily routines. "It is the beginning of a long relationship," he says.
