Along the way, children will encounter a curious collection of creatures – owl-shaped andirons, rocking horses, pottery dogs, rabbit chocolate molds, an alligator hand puppet, and many more. Beginning in 1988, Michael Kenna photographed the Nazi concentration and extermination camps. His goal was to convey what he himself found impossible to forget about the camps: the inexpressible suffering of the victims that can only be hinted at by the haunting emptiness of the camps. These 88 images resonate a greater truth that challenges our collective conscience to avoid repeating this dark and sinister part of human history.
